New Horses In The Barn (Aug 2022)

Three new horses added to “Derek Silva Racing Stables” this week (as though that were an official racing stable): Helicopter Money, Mo Temptation, and Moonbow 20. All are 2 yr olds and I can’t wait to watch their development and hopefully see them in the winner’s circle one day.

Anyhoo… MyRacehorse.com added seven horses in total to their “available to buy” page this week. One of them was a hold-over from last fall, a 3-year-old colt named Magical Ways, of whom I already own a share. This horse has been battling injuries from the get-go but is finally now healthy and training at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. He may not ultimately race there — we’ll see how he does in training — but for now that’s where he’s living and training with hall-of-fame trainer Bill Mott. Magical Ways is selling for just $75/share for a 0.01% equity stake if you’re interested.

The other new horses available to purchase shares this week include:

Helicopter Money

Helicopter Money is surprisingly the most affordable of all the new listings this week. He is a 2 yr old colt by New York’s #1 sire for three straight years, Central Banker, the grandson of 1994 Kentucky Derby winner Go for Gin. Helicopter’s mare, Ashlee’s Empire, is a daughter of 2003 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker. There is Grade 1 level talent on both the top and bottom sides of the pedigree., MyRacehorse went in for 75% of the colt at a total purchase price of just $37,500 at the 2022 June Ocala Breeders’ Sale of two-year olds in training. He will be trained in New York by Tom Morley and shares are going for just $67/each which equals a 0.025% equity stake.

Mo Temptation

Mo Temptation is a 2 yr old filly with the potential to light up the west coast. She will be trained by Doug O’Neill in California and her shares cost just $87/each. That equals a 0.025% equity share.

Mo Temptation’s pedigree includes 7 siblings who were winners and a Grade 1 stakes winner. Not too shabby. She is by Mo Town, who is the son of prolific winner-maker (is that a phrase?) Uncle Mo. And she’s out the dam Toasty who falls from the Danzig line. Though unraced, Toasty has produced seven winners as a broodmare, including stakes-placed runners. MyRacehorse purchased 70% of Mo Temptation, who sold for $105,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

Stay Fabulous

Do you like speed? Do you like pedigree? Do you like a horse trained by the winningest trainer of all time (Steve Asmussen)? Then Stay Fabulous is a 2 yr filly for you. She was purchased by MyRacehorse (75%) and Bloom Racing (25%) for $150,000 at the June 2022 Ocala Breeders’ Sale of two-year olds in training. She’ll train in the midwest and see where her racing career takes her from there.

Stay Fabulous is by Violence who knows a thing or two about siring winners. Not only was he undefeated as a 2 yr old racehorse, including a Grade 1 win and a Grade 2 win, he has also now produced six crops of runners who have earned over $29 million. Among his 35 stakes winners are Grade 1 winners Dr. Schivel, No Parole, and Volatile, and one of his current 3-year-olds, Newgrange, is a two-time graded stakes winner this year. Stay Fabulous is out of Jeanne’s Speight, a daughter of legendary broodmare sire Speightstown.

Stay Fabulous shares are going for $124 each, which represents 0.03% equity ownership.

Moonbow 20:

(NOTE — When you see horses that have a number at the end of their name, it usually indicates that the horse has not been named yet. “Moonbow 20” is the name given to a foal by the mare Moonbow who was born in 2020. The horse will eventually receive his/her own name and it will be registered with the Jockey Club as official.)

So Moonbow 20 is a 2 yr old filly with a great pedigree. Her sire is the 2017 Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit, son of legendary stallion Tapit. And she’s out of Moonbow who was sired by Distorted Humor, another classic stallion that produces race-winning grandchildren (grandhorses?). In fact, Distorted Humor has been the # 1 active broodmare sire for six consecutive years. Moonbow 20 was acquired for $48,750, and MyRacehorse owns 75%. They are selling shares for $86/each, a 0.03% equity stake.

I’m A Looker 20

What could be cooler than training in the beautiful sun of Southern California? Being trained by a hall of fame trainer in Richard Mandella. And what could possibly be better than being trained by a hall of famer? How about being the half-brother of a hall of famer and Triple Crown Winning racehorse?!

I’m A Looker 20 is a 2 yr old ridgling by Pioneerof the Nile who also produced hall of famer and Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. MyRacehorse purchased him for $250,000 at the 2022 June Ocala Breeders’ Sale of two-year olds in training. $145 per share gets you 0.025% equity stake. That’s a fairly low price for the sibling of horse racing royalty. (Hey, I’m not selling these horses, I receive no gain from promoting them, and I’m not affiliated with MyRacehorse in any way other than also being a customer. I’m just spitting facts here.)

She is out of I’m A Looker, a daughter of stallion Henny Hughes who also sired the great champion mare Beholder. I’m A Looker won her debut race as a 2 yr old at Churchill Downs and went on to also win a Grade 3 stakes before retiring.

My Fast One 20

UPDATE — My Fast One 20 has sold out

You could say My Fast One 20’s dad was also a fast one – Always Dreaming won the 2017 Kentucky Derby. He will get his start running in the Midwest with hall of fame trainer Mark Casse. MyRacehorse purchased the colt for $100,000 at the June 2022 Ocala Breeders’ Sale two-year olds in training. Share price is $165 for 0.05% equity stake.

Not to be left in the dust, My Fast One 20’s dam, My Fast One, was a winner on the track herself. She has also produced three foals to race — all winners! Now that’s what you look for in a broodmare.

My Fast One 20

In addition to these seven, there are two more that were recently purchased by MyRacehorse and still pending SEC review of the security offerings.

So there we have it. All the news that fit to print regarding the new offerings at MyRacehorse.com.

Please keep in mind that owning shares in racehorses has a very low chance of returning any money. Like probably Zero Percent Chance. That would actually be a good name for a racehorse. But if you enjoy the sport and love the animals, and want to watch them develop and grow and train (and yes, heal from injury and be temperamental and frustrate the heck out of you) then perhaps this is a fun hobby for you.

I wouldn’t recommend it as an investment. It’s for fun, like spending $125 for a ticket to watch the Red Sox play or to see Bruce Springsteen perform, only for the money on a racehorse you get to watch him/her perform and be connected to his/her team for years to come.
